Multiscale Analysis: A General Overview and Its Applications in Material Design Simcenter

A spatial-temporal large language model is proposed for traffic forecasting29 by defining Computer programming spatial-temporal embedding to learn the spatial locations and global temporal dependencies of time steps at each location. In traffic prediction often capturing spatial-temporal dependencies at multiple scales is required. To address the mentioned requirement, MT-STNets is designed in30, for prediction of both fine-grained traffic conditions on individual roads and coarse-grained traffic flows across urban areas. The results related to the baseline models are taken from Ref.8 and we follow the same settings to train and evaluate our model. All experiments are repeated 5 times and the average results are reported.

Computational cost analysis

Can we establish rigorous validation tests and guidelines to thoroughly test the predictive power of models built with machine learning algorithms? The use of open source codes and data sharing by the machine learning community is a positive step, but more benchmarks and guidelines are needed for neural networks constrained by physics. Reproducibility has to be quantified in terms of statistical metrics, as many optimization methods are stochastic in nature and may lead to different results.

With this approach, engineers are able to perform component and subcomponent designs with production-quality run times, and can even perform optimization studies. These methods are certainly more accurate than their single-scale, isotropic predecessors, but fall short when trying to analyze novel parts/materials for which there is no historical correlations or empirical guide-posts. Some of these techniques aim to homogenize the properties of the local scale; others attempt to capture nonlinear behavior via curve fitting and progressive damage approaches. Many of the most famous techniques, such as those evaluated in the World Wide Failure Exercises, are related to the analysis of unidirectional composites. The key is that the user must be very aware of the assumptions and bounds of their model when employing one of these techniques.

All datasets used for benchmarking were obtained from ref. 65 unless specified otherwise. This uncertainty does not have an upper bound, but we offer the option to scale and normalize it to have values between 0 and 1.
